Username and Display Name Are Different
An Instagram username, also called a handle, is the unique identifier used in profile links and @mentions. A display name is the larger name shown on the profile and does not have to be unique.

Where to Find the Username on a Profile
In the Instagram app or website, the username appears near the top of the profile and in the profile address. It may contain letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. Spaces are not used in usernames.
Find the Username From a Profile URL
In a standard profile link, the username is the part immediately after the Instagram domain. Ignore tracking parameters that may appear after a question mark.
For example, in a link formatted like instagram.com/example.name/, the username is example.name. Do not copy the entire URL into a field that accepts usernames only unless the viewer explicitly supports profile links.
Find the Username From a Shared Story or Reel
A shared post, Reel, or Story reference often shows the creator's handle near the media. Open the original Instagram link when possible and confirm the profile before copying the name.

Should You Include the @ Symbol?
Many search tools accept a username with or without @. The @ symbol is not part of the underlying profile URL. When a search fails, try the plain handle without spaces or extra punctuation.
